Do you hate washing dishes by hand? Then you must love a dishwasher. Do you think having a dishwasher will solve the problem of washing dishes? Of course…….
Not.
You see, just having a dishwasher does not equate into clean dishes. You might be in the habit of scraping off food, but you might have a better half who loves to stick dishes into the washer with all food stuck on it. Then there are tea stains, oily plates, residues on cutlery and oily pots and pans. And the bane of all dishwashers – hard water. Any or all of these might mean you might end up with dishes that are caked with mysterious looking dirt mounds, coated with a white film that makes them look yucky, and often times, the plastic ware takes the worst possible hit, covered as they become with white spots. Cleaning china can be a nightmare, with glasses losing all their shine and sparkle much to your despair.
When I started using the dishwasher a decade ago in US, we were quite new to the country. The very first time I used the dishwasher, I poured normal washing liquid into it. Within minutes, my kitchen floor filled up foamy soap water enough to sink a paper ship my toddler was playing with. My very first lesson: NEVER use regular dish washing liquid. Dishwashers always have special washing liquids and powder.
But my dish washing problems were far from over. Nothing really cleaned well, so I often resorted to washing dishes by hand, especially the china and the plastic ware. But we had already fallen head over heels in love with this country, and soon we were contemplating settling in USA. But so many things still stumped us – the first and foremost being that we would have to do all our work ourselves without help. That was intimidating to say the least, especially as we grew up always having an easy access to domestic help, where washing dishes or cleaning the floors were at best an emergency affair.
Then I met another Indian girl who was equally passionate about settling in this country as we were. A dentist by profession, she made a study of what made life easier in US for the likes of us who were handicapped just by the virtue of our upbringing. “There are some ‘fundas’ to live in US”, one day she told me. (The word ‘funda’ is widely used in India as a colloquial to signify tip and tricks to something). Among other things that she rattled off, the first was “Cascade”. “Use Cascade to wash your dishes. You will never despair again”. A television commercial would not have made the impact that her words made on me that day. I had never even heard of Cascade. So off we went, and bought our first Cascade dish washing powder.
Initially, we were very happy, as she said. Then our family grew, our needs grew, our dirty dishes grew. Mysterious dirty streaks made a reappearance. The knives came out caked with peanut butter, the glasses at times were had white spots that were hard to take off. So then I learned that it could be an issue with hard water, and also that we needed to use a rinse aid. We switched dishwasher powder, and in fact I have been trying new dishwasher powders for a while now.
Then this opportunity came. To try out Cascade Platinum Pacs. So….

It claims to:
• Powers away tough, 24 hour stuck-on food
• Eliminates the need to pre-wash dishes
• Helps maintain the look of new machines and helps prevent additional hard-water build-up
• Delivers exceptional dishware shineI am not kidding, this stuff is out of the world. It has literally given a new lease of life to my dishes.
So I tried the pacs. My verdict? Cascade Platinum DAZZLES!!
The dishes are coming out sparkling clean and dazzling. The steel spoons and spatulas had acquired a dull sheen are suddenly all shiny now. The china is sparkling, and glassware is dazzling clean. I love it!
The best part of this dishwasher tablet is that it takes away the most stubborn of stains. For example, we drink a lot of tea, and constant straining of tea can cause tannin stain very hard to rid of. Few dishwasher powders can completely clean the mesh. Cascade Platinum passed the test with flying colors.
Another example are the wine glasses. While they are clean, most often I have to clean and wipe them by hand, else they can look dull. Like here.
After Cascade Platinum magic:
I am thrilled to finally have a dishwashing tablet that makes so much difference to my kitchen.
And then, there is more. A LOT more!!!!
Ever since I started blogging, I realized that more than the taste bud, it’s the visuals which draw people to a dish. Cascade has teamed up with Top Chef judge and editor of Food + Wine magazine, Gail Simmons, to discuss why presentation is just as important as preparation*
From prep to plating: It’s more than just a great-tasting recipe, but also perfect presentation. Sparkling dishes, shining flat ware and spot-free glasses truly let you put your best food forward with culinary creations that pop!
Gail recommends impressing with a Platinum Presentation: “The easiest recipes pop with unexpected, gourmet presentations. Drizzle bright sauces on sparkling white plates or layer desserts in crystal-clean glassware. Keep your presentation sparkling with Cascade Platinum, which keeps dishes perfect for anytime entertaining and impromptu guests.”
Plating a food is a joy, and dirty dishes can be the biggest hinderence in that. Ever notice how frustrating simple streaks on a plate can be? Interestingly, ever since I started washing my dishes with Cascade Platinum Pacs I have noticed that I find more joy in creating a beautiful presentation to place onto the plate.
