Remember when an evening spent on dinner and a show was so complicated? Not so many years ago, you had to ace dinner reservations at your chosen bistro at just the right hour to ensure a timely arrival at the venue for the evening’s entertainment.
It was a scenario filled with opportunities for delays, which could spell disaster for the rest of the evening, and it took the coordination of a moon launch to get it right.

Situated on Clements Bridge Road in Deptford, Adelphia offers an impressive lineup of cuisine. But hold that thought.
The most striking feature of Adelphia, apart from its food, is the Greased Murder Mystery Dinner. Although you may errantly infer that it’s a reference to the fat content of the meals, it’s actually a link to “Grease”, the musical of stage and screen renown.
Adelphia takes fan fiction to the extreme by spinning a murder mystery around the folks at Rydell High. Danny, Sandy, and the gang must sock-hop their way around a killer, who has designs on sending them all to rock n’ roll heaven.
Suspend your disbelief. The humor and irony are intentional.
A four-course meal, plus a dinner ticket, will run $45. That includes your choice of an alcoholic beverage as well.
In addition to being a night’s entertainment in a comfortable setting, it’s a great value, especially considering how the food compares to sliding your way through a $7 bucket of popcorn at the movie theater.
Your non-popped options for dinner run from traditional American items to heavily Italian offerings. Appetizers range from shrimp scampi to an array of buffalo wings, priced competitively to those at food-only establishments.
Salads are served in impressive variety, from the Rustic Greek to the Cape May. Any is suitable as an entrée for the light eater. Main courses give top billing to fire-roasted pizza, in varieties more true to the old country than to delivery joints. Give spinach or feta cheese a try as toppings if you’re interested in atoning for a few years of cardboard box pies.
Amazing sandwiches like filet mignon paninis and a Philly cheese chicken (not steak) also populate the offerings, and great burgers are served as well. Each builds creatively on the standard restaurant items and makes something unique and distinctly American.
But the star of the show is a dazzling cast of pastas, sauté choices, chicken, beef, and veal. Fresh seafood plays a supporting role as well. The choices run from Steak Alexander to Seafood Basilico, all well-matched with flavorful sides and cooked to order. The combinations are endless and impressive.
A thorough stock of quality wines provides guaranteed great chemistry with your chosen meal, and beers both foreign and domestic are available on tap and by the bottle.
Somewhere in the course of American entertainment and food service, a forward thinker forged the two worlds together and created the dinner show.
Since then, many have auditioned for the plum parts in each city, but Deptford cancelled the callbacks when Adelphia entered the stage. The restaurant and showplace has struck that rare balance between entertainment venue and top-notch restaurant, and it stands to hold that distinction in the Garden State for many years to come.
