I am a Vanilla girl. There was a time when I had a complex because I just could not get myself to like any other flavor. While others around me went from end to end in ice cream experimentation, I stuck to plain, bland old vanilla. Flavors like Pecan rum, Rocky road, Blackcurrent meant nothing to me.
Then I heard the term ‘ice cream personality’. My already low ice-cream self-esteem plummeted to new depths. A Vanilla loving person has to be bland, right? Plain, white, no color – yes, bland must be the word.
Wrong. Fun fact from ice-cream.com describes Vanilla personality as following:
There is nothing plain about Vanilla. In fact, if you love Vanilla, you are actually a colorful, dramatic risk taker who relies more on intuition than logic. Emotionally expressive and idealistic, you tend to set high goals for yourself, and push yourself to meet and exceed them. On the romantic front, you tend to rely on secure romantic relationships that fulfill your emotional needs while working toward future objectives.
Ahh!! Enlightenment! 😀 Ever since, I have worn my love for Vanilla ice cream on my sleeves.
Once I discovered my ice-cream flavor calling, I started to feel confident about exploring other flavors too. In course of time, I discovered a few flavors that I love a lot. Like the one I made with kiwi.
I am a part of this exceptionally talented blogging group that showcases a Power Food each week. The Power Food ingredient each week is based on the book Power Foods: 150 delicious recipes with 38 Healthiest Ingredients from the editors of Martha Stewart’s Whole Living Magazine. It’s amazing the kind of food that fall under the purview of Power Foods. You can find these ingredients in everyday kitchen. They provide an outrageous amount of nutrients – fiber, vitamins, iron, calcium, magnesium, minerals, phytonutrients, fatty acids – and anything else that you can think of that aids in promoting good health and healthy food habits.

- 1 can Evaporated milk chilled for 24 hours
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tsp vanilla essence
- ½ cup fresh kiwi puree
- ½ cup condensed milk
- a pinch of salt
- Whisk chilled Evaporated milk until it is three times the volume and forms soft peaks
- Add sugar and blend some more
- Add vanilla essence and condensed milk.
- Once the condensed milk is blended in, whisk in the kiwi puree and salt.
- Freeze uncovered for 45 minutes.
- Take it out, and churn again for two minutes.
- Put back for 1 hour.
- Repeat 2 more times.
- Then transfer in a covered jar (I use yogurt containers) and freeze for 4 hours.
This is a low-calorie ice-cream option. You can add cream instead of Evaporated Milk for a more creamy heavy texture. For this ice cream I used golden kiwis and they are more sweeter than the green ones. You can also baby kiwis if available.
So tell me, what’s your ice-cream personality?
