Niagara Falls has been a favorite destination of ours for the last decade or so, and it never gets old. It never fails to awe you.
It’s majestic. Ethereal. The gossamer quality of its flow over the edge is almost celestial. In short, it’s darned mind-blowing.
The sheer audacity of the currents mesmerize you.
As you peep over the not too tall railing at the raging waters cascading down the edge, you feel the earth shifting by you. You realize that you are but one flying leap away from a doomed eternity of a swirling rag doll. The unsavory thought sobers you and you promptly take two steps back and stay there.
You also realize you are puny in scheme of things.
You get to meet the tallest man who ever lived according to Guinness Books of World Records. Suffering from a medical condition called ‘Gigantism’ this kid didn’t stop growing. He was pretty intelligent and all that, and became a celebrity before a minor infection in his ankle became septic and claimed his life at 22.
You also get to visit silly monster houses that promise to scare you. Your children snicker, snigger and go in convinced nothing and no-one can scare them. Then they spend the next 20 minutes trying to brave it out in pitch darkness confronting strange and unexpected shadows, tacky monsters, bloody body pieces strategically spread around, moving figures with daggers, and shrieking visitors. Once, you even try to steer them to a particularly interesting spot which you feel is quite spooky and would be of interest to your kid. Your younger kid literally breaks his bones trying to get away, screaming that he has ‘already seen it’ and he ‘does not need to see it again’. You also run into your older kid who, in his hurry to get away, literally mows you down. Hmmm. They come out white-faced, their smirks now wiped off their pale faces, all the while trying to convince you it was all silly and they were not scared at all. You are so convinced.
Then you come back home at midnight and feast on this fabulous Red chicken curry cooked by your friend. You are so gratified and satiated that you forget to get the recipe.
